As the aging population continues to increase, so does the prevalence of incurable diseases such as dementia. Dementia sufferers will eventually endure the loss of identity and independence as a major complication of the illness. Historically, treatment for dementia has been primarily focused on psychotropic symptom maintenance with little attention to non-pharmacological therapeutic alternatives. Research shows that aging individuals tend to mature in their world views and reach a level of spiritual transcendence to cope with the existential fears of loss of identity and death. Fear to Faith is an integrative approach to early dementia self-management that involves components of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and spirituality with an existential focus. Fear to Faith's primary objective is to aid in reducing the initial existential fears of anxiety and death associated with the long-term diagnosis while increasing the ability to self-manage its symptoms.
