The purpose of this research was to survey high school football officials in the state of Alabama, and examine their perceptions of the effectiveness of a common 21st Century training instrument that has widespread use. The Hudl Video Hosting service is a program that many high school football coaches have used for years to assist in the training and development of their players. Many football officials' associations began using the same system so they could examine, receive, and share video clips from coaches in an effort to provide education and training to the officials. The Hudl Perceived Effectiveness Questionnaire (HPEQ) was developed specifically for this study to ascertain the opinions of the Hudl Video Hosting service by registered football officials across the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). The data were collected and examined with parametric Pearson correlations, group comparisons with t tests, and repeated measures ANOVA test. The results showed that all features of the Hudl Video Hosting program (over program: M=3.84, SD=0.93; annotations: M=3.57, SD=1.00; devices: M=3.50, SD=1.04; review: M=3.51, SD=1.05; sharing: M=3.44, SD=1.01; and camera: M=3.35, SD=1.07) measured between effective and highly effective on a 5-point Likert scale. The annotation feature (M=3.84) was found to be the most effective of all the different features that were examined by the HPEQ. A total of 234 AHSAA registered football officials responded to the survey request by completing the HPEQ.
