This thesis will investigate how well the land-use patterns of Pittsburgh in the mid-twentieth century conform to the Chicago School models by using Social Area Analysis indices to quantify census tracts for the years 1940, 1950 and 1960. The spatial patterns of the indices will be evaluated quantitatively for each census year and then compared between census years to evaluate the process of land-use differentiation anticipated by each model.
