The study in this thesis attempts to add an anthropological perspective to the crucial role of the notions of tradition, affect and ethics in the conception and realization of the movement of non-violent resistance in Kosova in the 1990's. While the majority, if not all, of the scholars who have done research on, and written about the movement, focus explicitly on its political achievements or failures-that is, on the movement's final outcome-this thesis is more interested in the processes which gave rise to, and sustained, the movement. This study has been driven by an impulse of hoping to understand why and how the people of Kosova decided to embrace non-violence, rather than engaging in armed conflict, in their response to the repressive measures adopted by the state of Serbia after the revocation of Kosova's political status, as an autonomous region, in 1989. The main goal of this thesis, therefore, is to emphasize the embodiment of traditional knowledge and ethical affects in Kosova's movement of non-violent resistance.
