Feedback is best understood as a process operating within the structures (structure and culture) of a complex organizational system. Through the stories of feedback givers and receivers, this narrative inquiry uses in-depth, semi-structured interviews to accomplish the following: identify organizational structures perceived to facilitate positive outcomes from negative feedback, examine the feedback processes of givers and receivers, and expand the scope of what constitutes positive outcome. Findings suggest elements of structure and culture can be facilitative for the feedback process resulting in positive outcomes. Reflection also appears to be facilitative.
