This production thesis utilizes artistic-creative and hermeneutic research methodologies to examine music as a therapeutic intervention through the lenses of neuroscience and depth psychology. It explores how creating and embodying a ritual informed by these perspectives can help a clinician better understand how to contain the exploration and processing of emotions through music. The author's personal experience within the ritual offers an example of how music may be used both as an engaging stimulus and a self-regulating resource when working with trauma and grief in the body, as well as how musical improvisation can deepen self-awareness by giving voice to unconscious material. Samples of the author's creative work illustrate the sounds, movement, and emotional expression that emerged from the rituals and are supplied in the appendices.
