The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent seniors in Christian high schools perceived chapel services to affect their faith formation positively, and which practices, if any, they perceived most strongly affected their faith formation. Respondents came from 12 Christian secondary schools from different parts of the country, and they answered a short survey that the researcher created and called the Chapel Efficacy Perceptions Survey. In the study, the researcher used three indices to measure students' perceptions of the effect of chapel on their faith formation: the Action Index (AI-how the students perceived that chapel motivated them to act), Cognitive Index (CI-how the students perceived that chapel services taught them about their faith), and Emotion Index (EI-how the students perceived that chapel made them feel). Specifically, the study sought to determine whether a significant difference existed between students' scores on the AI, CI, and EI because of 11 different aspects of the subjects or their chapel services, which made up the 11 research questions. For two of the research questions, no difference was found in the respondents' chapel practices; therefore, there were no data to analyze. For six of the research questions, the researcher found in the analysis no significant differences; therefore, the null hypothesis could not be rejected. For three of the research questions, significant differences were found; therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected. Specifically, the analysis of the questions of time of day when chapel services were held, presence or absence of an inspirational message, and presence or absence of a devoted prayer time produced significant differences. The results of the study, the implications for the use of chapel in Christian schools, and the recommendations for further study are discussed in detail.
