Moving from one country to another can be a challenging experience, especially if no social support systems and effective coping mechanisms are in place. This transition can be further impacted by differences in the home country versus the host country's culture, that impact the immigrant's way of life. While Caribbean nationals as a whole are considered to be a resilient people, the process of acculturation presents new and individual challenges. This dissertation research study therefore explored the relationship between spirituality, acculturative stress, psychological well-being, and ease of transition of Caribbean immigrants. The aim was to assess patterns of acculturation and the level of psychological well-being for this population, and the possible impact of spirituality as a buffer or coping mechanism to acculturative stress. One hundred and seven Caribbean immigrants from the English-speaking Caribbean, currently living on the East Coast of the United States, were included in the sample. Study findings were not significant for two of the three hypotheses tested, but contribute to the already existing literature on the topic; and further provide direction for future or further research, and mental health practitioners working with this population. While this study's findings may speak to the resilient nature of the Caribbean population and supportive Caribbean communities in the United States, research indicates that this is a group that has historically been underrepresented in mental health services and would serve to benefit from certain individual or structural interventions, as theirs is a tri-dimensional acculturation experience.
