Under Title IX, male and females have an equitable opportunity both at work and at school. Under Title IX, any institution, that receives federal funding, is compelled to provide equal opportunities to participate in sports for female athletes. Since the enactment of Title IX, the percentage of female head coaches for female athletic teams has diminished from a high of 90% to a low of 20%. The purpose of this predictive quantitative analysis is to determine if the number of female athletic teams offered affect the total number of female coaches. In addition, do the salaries of both male and female head coaches for female athletic teams affect the numbers of female head coaches? The Equity in Athletics Data Analysis Cutting Tool provided data for 306 NCAA Division II institutions for the year 2015. Data indicated two important facts. First, the number of female athletic teams offered had no impact as to the total number of female head coaches for female athletic teams. Second, the salary offered to head coaches for female athletic teams had no correlation to the number of female head coaches for female athletic teams. Three recommendations came from this study. First, dismantling the good ole boy network and replacing it with equitable hiring practices. Second, hire more female athletic directors, which could affect the total number of female head coaches. Thirdly, start a mentorship program preparing young female coaches for future head coaching opportunities. Lastly, the NCAA must initiate equitable hiring practices backed by an NFL style system of fines and penalties to assure proper hiring practices.
