The purpose of this research was to survey certified athletic trainers currently employed in clinical settings to gain insight into their perception of the level of importance of competencies listed under specific content areas in the fourth edition of the Athletic Training Educational Competencies document that pertained most to clinical settings and to gather any additional competencies the participants perceived as necessary when entering employment into this environment. The results suggested all the competencies presented in this survey were needed for entry-level certified athletic trainers entering clinical settings. Differences in the perceived level of importance among specific competencies between demographic factors were discovered. Additional categories grouped from common themes had emerged, but not of a significant frequency.
