A manual transmission vehicle experiences transient vibration events during gearshift maneuvers induced by the rapid application of the clutch pedal. This study quantifies the transient event by recording data and reproducing the negative transient with an operating vehicle. The lumped parameter analytical simulation built in LMS Amesim matches the experimental measurements validating the model. The model can further simulate changes to the dynamic properties resulting in an improved response to the simulated shift maneuver. A laboratory test rig with truncated driveline components assembled in parallel with the analytical simulation replicates vehicle impacts. The rig studies the simulated modifications after validating the test rig by implementing proposed solutions. The proposed solution simulated and validated with the test rig uses a spring element in parallel with the clutch pedal to reduce pedal application rate impeding the release of stored potential energy and lowering impact velocities.
