The purpose of this study was to examine motivators of eastern Kentucky high school tennis players, interest in Junior Team Tennis, and coaches' perspectives on increasing participation. Likert scale instruments were administered to players from the 15th Region of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, and quantitative analyses included descriptive statistics and t tests. Thematic qualitative analysis of coaching interviews was also used. The findings showed 1) improving skills and having fun were players' predominant motivators; 2) male players were motivated by rewards, competition, popularity, the challenge, and gaining status or recognition at significantly higher levels than females; 3) overwhelming interest existed for Junior Team Tennis; and 4) coaches believed player enjoyment and facilities were factors in increasing participation.
