This paper explores the past, present, and future of cyber warfare to determine the plausibility of a cyber war. Past cyber events such as Stuxnet provide a precedent and reveal the potential of cyber attacks in the future. Artificial intelligence and other new technologies shed light on how cyber operations will be conducted in the future. Most importantly, this paper focuses on the current state cyber warfare because all of the vulnerabilities collected, all the operations conducted, and all of the cyber weapons developed today will shape the cyber war of tomorrow. Nations have declared cyberspace as the fifth domain of war, but many researchers debate whether a cyber war will ever occur. The evidence provided in this paper enforces the belief that cyber war is in fact a plausible threat.
