There is a powerful link between entrepreneurship and economic vitality that serves to maintain a growing and thriving economy. When eight million jobs were lost in the United States during the Great Recession-December 2007 through June 2009-there was an upswing in entrepreneurship, as individuals began pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. Academic interest in entrepreneurship blossomed as colleges and institutions developed entrepreneurial programs that would prepare interested entrepreneurial students to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to start a business. This exploratory case study examines a range of educational experiences that influenced the development of five successful entrepreneurs in Hawai.i. Their rich and varied experiences, which included building relationships, fostering a team, developing a supportive network, facing challenges with a growth mindset, and connecting passion with purpose, were influential in their development. The results suggest that a combination of formal, informal, non-formal, and experiential educational experiences may influence the development of key knowledge, skills, and dispositions of successful entrepreneurs. The findings may be of interest to researchers or educators who are developing entrepreneurial curriculum, activities, and experiences that may better prepare aspiring entrepreneurs for careers in the 21st century marketplace.
