Thesis (Ed.D.)--Trevecca Nazarene University, 2018.
To identify a possible relationship between cyberbullying in the elementary school setting with increasing feelings of empathy and prosocial behaviors a mixed-method, quasi-experimental study was conducted. Lessons centered on prosocial behaviors, feelings of empathy and cyberbullying were conducted weekly in the classroom's morning meetings. The Interpersonal Reactivity Index, The Self-Report Altruism Scale, and the Cyberbullying Experience Scale were used to measure prosocial behaviors, feelings of empathy and incidences of cyberbullying. There was a marginally significant growth of prosocial behaviors and decrease in cyberbullying and cyber-victimization in both the treatment and control schools. There was not a significant difference in student's levels of empathy. Recommendations for further research include a longitudinal study of the effects of cyberbullying on students.
