The experience of being an educator has brought joy and fulfillment to my life, as well as stress and anxiety on a professional and personal level. I felt my teaching was suffering, my relationship with my students was not in a place that was fair to them nor myself, and the dread of returning to school after a weekend or break was crippling and fierce. But then I stumbled upon mindfulness, particularly mindfulness meditation, present moment awareness, and yoga. To remedy, or attempt to ease the problems I was experiencing in my professional and personal life, I adopted mindfulness practices and documented the process by keeping a journal of my experiences. With this journal, I used my experiences with the various practices of mindfulness to concoct an essence of my journey, to describe what I felt changing within me and around me as the result of mindfulness. To create this essence, I used thematic coding to develop a framework of the main findings in this study. With those findings, I was able to determine if mindfulness practices made any sort of impact on my emotional well being. With confidence I can say I managed to find a way to ease my negative thoughts, become accepting of the way things are and those things that I cannot change (both in my professional life as a teacher, and my personal life), and to find joy in life---sometimes in the most routine of moments.
