Literacy in the Content Areas at the Secondary Level For this study, the focus was on literacy in the content areas at the secondary level. The researcher analyzed the current field of research in content area literacy regarding reading strategy implementation in the classroom and the benefits of professional development in content area literacy. The researcher surveyed secondary content area teachers about professional development in literacy. The researcher analyzed how secondary teachers perceived professional development in content area literacy in terms of effectiveness, value, and practicality. The purpose of the study was to provide knowledge for secondary teachers regarding literacy strategies in the content areas and collect data on the types of professional development presented to secondary teachers.
