Thesis (Psy.D.)--Alliant International University, 2015.
The Purpose of this research study was to describe the experience of cultural marginality for second generation Latinos in the United States (U.S.) that have obtained or were in the process of obtaining a graduate degree. The study was made up of 10 participants that were recruited on the basis of criterion and convenience sampling. Moustakas' (1994) transcendental phenomenological approach was used to analyze the data. The results produced three essential themes: (a) the experience of confusion about a person's place in one or both of their comprising cultures; (b) the experience of barriers and/or discrimination by one or both of the comprising cultural groups; and (c) understanding marginal state is used as a coping strategy to be in control over cultural experiences.
