Thesis (M.A.)--Saint Mary's College of California, 2019.
We explored how Company X's technology can be leveraged to support collaboration and the growth of adaptive capacities, which can foster a more effective and fun workplace culture. This leadership inquiry explored the impact video conferencing technology has in the building of adaptive capacity in a workplace environment, and how millennial teams can promote a compelling culture in which they want to participate. I conducted a four-month Action Inquiry Method (AIM) research project with four members of a Customer Success team who work at a global video collaboration company. Participants were from various offices around the United States (San Jose, Kansas City, and Denver), and were all in the Millennial age range of 22--37 years old. The research group completed four cycles of Action Research conducted on our company's own video conferencing solution. Because technology is evolving faster than our ability to leverage all the benefits, there is a need to expand people's capacity to not only keep up with the technology, but to utilize it in service of leadership and collaboration. Because of this research, we discovered that if we give ourselves the time and space for collaboration, we can move the needle in creating the workplace we aspire to have.
