There is a pressing need for more cultural sensitivity and more relevant approaches to treat mental illness. The special emphasis of this qualitative research study is on the healing practices not adequately documented in the mainstream Western literature but that is quite prevalent in the Malay society. In-depth interviews were conducted with six Malay Muslim healers in Singapore and interpretative phenomenological analysis was utilized to analyze the data. Healers' role as a source of care for the Malay Muslim community was discussed and description of the processes of Islamic healing---Ruqyah therapy allows for further understanding as to how healers assess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental health issues. Healers' perspectives provided crucial insights as to how mental health professionals could engage with Muslim clients and how to facilitate more suitable ways of working collaboratively with Muslim healers. The inclusion of sociocultural and religious considerations into mental healthcare policies, services, and education is warranted to better meet the needs of the mentally ill.
