Thesis (Ed.D.)--Lincoln Memorial University, 2012.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between principal leadership styles and student achievement. A total of 21 rural elementary principals participated in the MLQ-5x self-rater questionnaire. Multiple regression analyzed the principal responses and achievement scores from the TCAP scores for third and fifth grade students. The results of the findings suggested that principals' leadership styles did not have a significant relation to students' academic achievement scores or value-added scores. Further, the researcher suggested that principals did not play an active role in the outcome of students' achievement and value-added scores. Recommendations for future research included the need to examine teacher perceptions of principals in areas such as job satisfaction, classroom support, and professional development, specifically, how principals' leadership styles impacted teachers and indirectly impacted achievement scores.
