The East Asian monsoon is influenced by both natural factors and human activities. The role of aerosol as one of human activity factors is important and yet uncertain, especially the aerosol indirect effects. This study uses multiple models in the CMIP5 (Climate Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5) suite to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of temperature, precipitation, aerosol, downwelling shortwave radiation, cloud fraction, and wind in East Asia thereby to find the influence of aerosol indirect effects on the East Asia monsoon. The results show that the increase in aerosol can increase convective precipitation but also can inhibit stratiform precipitation. Indirect aerosol effects only changed the distribution of precipitation in East Asia. Under the influence of aerosol indirect effects, downwelling shortwave radiation and aerosol optical depth (AOD) would change the temperature contrast between the sea and land. It could strengthen the East Asian summer monsoon and weaken the East Asian winter monsoon compared to direct effects only.
