Thesis (M.A.)--Notre Dame de Namur University, 2018.
Stress is experienced when one perceives they cannot adequately cope with the demands being made on them or with threats to their well-being. Students are affected by stress through their physical, mental, and emotional well being. Academic stress is one form of stress experienced by students in elementary school. In this study, art therapy will be used to reduce academic stress for elementary students, while providing a space for creative writing as a response to the art assessments and interventions. Student participants will also be measured to see if art therapy can increase academic self-efficacy through the use of art interventions and creative writing. Overall, participants reported stress reduction after a 10 session art therapy intervention program. It was not found that art therapy can help increase self-efficacy.
