The purpose of this qualitative case study was to identify the organizational factors leading to enhanced employee engagement within an inter-organizational partnership consisting of a nonprofit foundation, a publicly traded manufacturing company, and a governmental entity contributing to a single business venture in Northwest Washington. To address this purpose, study participants were asked to respond to the research question of what are the identifiable conditions that can enhance employee engagement within an inter-organizational partnership? Through a series of semi-structured interview responses, operational observations, and policy and procedure reviews, a list of conditions suitable for the engagement of employees within an inter-organizational partnership has been developed. Within any organization, there is a balance or alignment between structural elements, such as leadership styles, employee empowerment, communications, and the environment that has to be achieved for employees to fully engage. Within a partnership, this balance is even more critical and difficult to achieve because of two or more business or operational philosophies as well as differing cultures, leadership styles, responsibilities, and goals and objectives. The presented list of identifiable conditions that can enhance employee engagement within an inter-organizational partnership was researched to enhance the ability of employees from differing structural paradigms to engage in the success of an inter-organizational partnership.
