Thesis (D.Min.)--Biola University, 2018.
The promotion of Air Force chaplains to the rank of major leads to a shift in the missional emphasis from primarily providing unit level ministry to one of also leading and supervising wing chapel teams. Before this transition takes place, a limited number of AF chaplains will receive the necessary education, mentoring, or experience to confidently lead and supervise wing chapel teams. Unfortunately, from a leadership standpoint, the transition to leading and supervising Wing Chapel teams has not always been successful and has at varying levels contributed to fourteen ministry leadership failures since 2014, impacting the senior chaplain's career, the chapel team, and the integrity of the Chaplain Corps with senior commanders. I believe that teaching junior chaplains teaming principles from business and industry, and teaching them how to use those principles, will result in increased confidence levels within AF chaplains to lead and supervise Wing Chapel teams. As the researcher, I have developed a teaming seminar for AF chaplains that incorporates the four-part effective teaming model necessary to lead and supervise healthy chapel teams. The four parts of that model are trust, common purpose, shared consciousness, and empowered execution.
