The purpose of this mix-methods study is to examine kindergarten teacher views on early literacy, parent participation, and outreach efforts and compare them to that of preschool parents. It is in this examination that we consider what effect a collaboration between kindergarten teachers and preschool parents might have on early literacy, specifically in the transition from preschool to kindergarten. In addition, this study gives voice to parents as to what transition activities might best help their child make the transition from the informal, preschool education settings to that of the formal, kindergarten classroom. This study highlights the impact of parent-teacher collaboration during the transition between preschool to kindergarten.
