520 $a Obtaining a sample of 222 Chinese international students through a social marketing campaign, this study found a high level of mental disorders, underutilization of mental health services, and a moderate level of general mental health help-seeking among Chinese international students. Predictors of a higher past-year global mental health status score were: not having a steady partner (beta =-0.717, p = 0.006); a higher level of stress about the returning to China plan (beta =0.304, p = 0.014); a lower level of coping self-efficacy -- stopping unpleasant emotions and thoughts (? =-0.029, p = 0.031); and, a lower rating of cultural humility of key college/university personnel (? =-0.267, p = 0.025).
520 $a Predictors of a higher level of mental health service utilization were: a higher level of general mental health help-seeking (? =0.277, p = 0.000); not having a steady partner (beta =-0.347, p = 0.010); and, a lower level of coping self-efficacy -- stopping unpleasant emotions and thoughts (beta =-0.022, p = 0.002).

520 $a The qualitative findings of this study included Chinese international students' experiences of specific stressors and their coping strategies. Students expressed pervasive concerns about academic, internship/job seeking, VISA sponsorship, and social adjustment. Seeking help from family, partners, and friends appeared to be the most favorable coping strategy among Chinese international students in U.S. higher education. Implications for health educators and recommendations for future research were discussed.
