Through the interpretation of the Russian myth The Firebird, the Horse of Power, and Princess Vasilisa, this thesis examines concepts of initiation. Theories of initiation, such as confrontation with death, the sacred wound, meeting the divine feminine, myth, and ritual are applied to understand the esoteric, or hidden, teachings of initiation contained in the Russian myth. This thesis utilizes a heuristic methodology, discussing the myth and the author's personal relationship to and insight with initiatory themes. The interpretation of The Firebird, the Horse of Power, and Princess Vasilisa myth is rooted in the perspective of the author. Approaching this mythological story via theories of initiation can lead to personal transformation and further insight into the mysteries contained in mythological story and initiation.
