Using an Indigenous research paradigm in conjunction with decolonization theory I have examined the tenets of gentle action in contrast to traditional ways of teaching and learning in Native American culture with a focus on my tribe, the Chippewa-Cree.

The issue of incarceration of Native American women and the need for healing and culturally specific spiritual services to foster healing is discussed. Traditional healing and spiritual practices are described and gentle action is examined as a possible approach to strengthen current practices.
