This dissertation encapsulates a qualitative study that explores the identification and educational experiences of Third Culture Kids living abroad. A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is an individual who has spent a significant part of their developmental years outside of their parents' culture and country of nationality. This study specifically examines the scope to which transitional programs are offered to TCKs at international schools. TCKs experience numerous challenges when arriving and departing from a temporary home, school, and country. Previous research on the TCK sub-culture has been inadequate in addressing transitional programs that effectively could minimize the challenges TCKs experience during their stages of transition. This dissertation offers current best practices used by international educators. Participants included four global educators from international schools across four continents. Through the data analysis of surveys and interviews conducted four identified themes emerged: Awareness, Education, Relationship Building, and Emotional Sensitivity. The findings suggest the significance of implementing orientation and departure programs for TCKs, and continuous professional development for all educators. The results of this study were used to develop recommendations for international administrators and educators.
