The purpose of this project was to create a school-based Solution-Focused art therapy group for teenage girls in grades 9-12 who are experiencing depression. The literature shows developing positive relationships with adults and peers can mitigate the impact of depression. Programs for treating depression vary greatly depending on theoretical orientation, social context, and presentation of symptoms. The school-based Solution-Focused art therapy group is designed to incorporate mental health programs into schools, provide opportunities for teen girls to develop supportive relationships, and develop creative solutions to alleviate the symptoms of their depression.
