Since World War II, insurgencies have become among the most prevalent type of conflict. The purpose of this research was to identify the key causal variables that led to the success of the Israeli counterinsurgency campaign during the Second Intifada. This research drew upon secondary sources and primary sources, to include expert interviews and archival data. This project was carried out through process tracing. The independent variables were the boots on the ground, border control, and criticality of intelligence approaches. The results of this study indicate that these three variables contributed to the dependent variable of a successful counterinsurgency campaign. The results of this study will contribute to the current state of literature regarding peace and reconciliation. In addition, this thesis will contribute to the counterinsurgency literature regarding the suggested ratio of counterinsurgents to residents in the location of an insurgency.
