The impact of students completing career and technical education (CTE) nontraditional programs for their gender has been the subject of numerous education reform efforts, such as the Vocational Act of 1963, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 2006, to name a few. Education data show that there is gender inequity in career preparation for nontraditional CTE programs providing training for jobs in high-paying fields. The purpose of this causal-comparative quantitative study was to evaluate gender equity in Florida's CTE nontraditional programs. Examining the difference between nontraditional CTE male and female completion rates in programs of study that lead to occupational certification, postsecondary enrollment, as well as result in high and low-paying fields, are factors of this study. Existing data were extracted from the Florida Department of Education PK-20 Education Data Warehouse database and the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics provided the salary data. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistics software program. This study used the statistical techniques of chi-square and binomial logistic regression to determine if a relationship exists between the variables. There was a randomly selected minimum sample of 658 CTE students (329 males and 329 females) enrolled in selected nontraditional programs of study for their gender during the 2011-2014 school years. The chi-square analysis revealed a significant difference between male and female students' completion rates in CTE nontraditional programs of study certification licensing and postsecondary enrollment. The binomial logistic regression showed that the odds of higher wages in nontraditional programs of study are greater for males and females. Further research into the impact of gender equity in CTE nontraditional programs of study is recommended to other states.
