Thesis (Ed.D.)--University of South Alabama, 2016.
This applied dissertation was a formative evaluation of a Freshman Career Prep Rotation Course. This research study used a mixed methods approach to determine whether there is a relationship between a Pilot Career Prep Rotation course and students' choice of career academy. The study aimed to determine what the teachers' and students' perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of the pilot course were. Previous research has shown that students who enter ill-suited career paths may experience delays in academic success and increased cost of education. A sample of both teachers' and students' qualitative and quantitative data was collected using digital questionnaires. The findings from the research show that the impact of the Pilot Career Prep Rotation course on students' career choice was more complex than previously thought. Incorporating the qualitative data in the terms of perceived strengths and weaknesses of the program as determined by the teachers and students provided more in-depth understanding in terms of the course evaluation. The results of the study findings, as well as implications and suggestions for administrators, were further discussed.
