The purpose of this study was to examine the motivations of golf tourists who chose to play golf and traveled in Hua Hin, Thailand. In utilizing a quantitative survey questionnaire on push and pull motivations, the study first identified a demographic profile of the golf tourists followed by the investigation of specific push, pull and political stability factors that affected golf tourists' decision to travel and participate in golf in Hua Hin. The study also analyzed if the push, pull motivation and political instability factors differed by the golfers' demographic factors. In addition, the study scrutinized after-trip over satisfaction of each of the specific push, pull motivation and political stability factors and investigated if relationships between and among the three factors existed. Next, the study explored overall satisfaction of each specific push, pull motivation and political stability factors as to order which ones most affected the golf tourists to repeat the trip. Finally this study examined if differences in after-trip overall satisfactions existed between the golf tourists who decided to revisit and not to revisit.

In order to obtain at least 400 returned and usable questionnaires, 1,200 survey questionnaires were sent to the target population through five golf course managers who volunteered to assist in the survey data collection. The total of 417 usable survey questionnaires were returned and analyzed based on statistical methods appropriate to each of the research questions investigated in the present study.

The demographic data of the study indicated that overall golf tourists were matured-married male predominantly who preferred to surf the internet for needed information. Majority groups of the golfers travelled from East Asia and Europe with their family or friend or both family and friend. More than half of the golf tourists were the repeat visitors who stayed longer than a week in Hua Hin. Almost 90% of the golfers mentioned they would revisit while almost all of them would recommend others to visit Hua Hin.

Based on the descriptive statistics, frequencies and percentage, the findings revealed that "learning and challenging" and "golf resort/course facilities and services" factors could be seen as prime concerns in pushing and pulling the golf tourists to travel and participate in golf in Hua Hin area. Political stability also played an important role in pulling the golfers to travel in the area. Similar patterns occurred for after-trip overall satisfactions as the golfers were most satisfied with the "learning and challenging" push factor and "golf resort/course facilities and services" pull factor.

A One-way ANOVA procedure was utilized to investigate if significant differences in push, pull motivation and political stability factors existed by the golfers' demographic factors. The findings revealed that significant differences were found in four out of six demographic factors including gender, age, region of origin, and travel length. No significant differences were found in any of the push and pull motivation and political stability factors by marital status and number of visit. In addition, no significant differences were found in any of the after-trip overall satisfaction of the push and pull motivation and political stability factors between the golfers who mentioned they would revisit and those who would not.

The findings indicated eight strong positive relationships between the push and pull overall satisfactions. All of the relationships were statistically significant.
