Thesis (Ph.D.)--Sofia University, 2017.
This multiple case study investigated the therapeutic impact of hatha yoga practice on sexual desire and arousal in premenopausal women. To better understand this phenomenon, this researcher recruited 5 individuals to participate in a hatha yoga intervention. Participants completed 2 questionnaires, wrote journal entries, and completed an interview. Data from the interviews and journal entries were evaluated using a thematic content analysis. In addition, pre and post intervention scores from the questionnaires, the Female Sexual Functioning Index (FSFI) and the Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS) were compared and applied to the thematic content analysis of each participant. A cross-case analysis was conducted comparing the data between the participants. The findings from the study demonstrated hatha yoga to have some impact on FSIAD symptoms, and these symptoms were determined to be influenced by psychological, cognitive, and emotional factors related to intimacy, general distress, and body image. This study offered a contribution to the greater understanding of potential factors of Female Sexual Interest / Arousal Disorder (FSIAD), and lends support to the assessed efficacy of hatha yoga as a beneficial alternative modality for addressing the symptoms of Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD).
