An exploration of the motivational appeal of video games conducted through the examination of multiple theories of human motivation. The purpose of this project is to increase clinician awareness of the ways in which video games are used by clients to meet psychological needs. To accomplish this goal, this project focus on: disseminating information regarding video gamers and gaming culture, exploring the psychological needs that video gaming behavior may be intended to address, and describing frameworks of human motivation that can be use by clinicians to better understand the gaming behavior of their clients. Theories reviewed in this project include Drive Theories, Mood Management, Maslow's Hierarchy and Self-Determination Theory.
