Thesis (Ed.D.)--Delta State University, 2017.
The purpose of this study was to compare community college students' final grades with instructor educational background. A total of 89 full-time instructors who taught face-to-face classes at one campus of a community college in Mississippi were included in the sample. In addition, the sample included 1,072 academic course sections and a total of 11,296 final grades. The use of a Chi-square test determined that there was a statistically significant correlation between the sample variables of instructor educational background and student grades. In addition, a logistic regression was used to determine if there was a difference in pass/fail grades based on instructor educational background using data from the research sample. The findings of this study suggest that with this sample, there is a statistically significant correlation between instructor educational background and student grades which led to suggestions that improving instructional practices in community colleges could have an impact on student success.
