Thesis (Ed.D.)--University of Northern Colorado, 2014.
This descriptive, embedded mixed methods study, conducted in a large, technology-rich Core Knowledge middle school in Colorado, examines the integration of 6th grade English content with four 21 st century skills: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. The process three teachers went through in designing and implementing this 21st century pedagogy is described in great detail. This is followed by the presentation of a content-skills integration model which synthesizes the process down into a broadly applicable series of steps. In addition, students' understanding and application of both the content and skills were assessed multiple times over the course of the integrated unit, the results of which are presented in the findings.
