In the peripatetic community of New York City art dealers, there is the eternal search for what is next. This thesis analyzes the evolution of the contemporary art dealer specific to the Lower East Side and Bushwick. The art dealer serves as a critical component of an artist's career and acts as a vital mechanism to the art market. Globalization, technological innovation and investment potential are all aspects that have changed how the art dealer operates. Art and the neighborhood do not arise together by coincidence but are intrinsic to one another's survival. This thesis delves into the socio-anthropological and economic factors that determine placement and ultimately foster art centers. The average life expectancy of a gallery is five to twenty years, while the ecology of the market posits Chelsea and SoHo are overcrowded, the movement of an emerging dealer is motivated through factors other than property markets.
