The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of Garden-Based Learning (GBL) for children. The exploration of literature on the subject of GBL will examine where the idea of GBL originated and what has transpired since. Rationale for GBL programs' importance will be given to show how GBL influences children's development academically, socially, nutritionally, physically, and morally. To expand on the rationale, discussion will include how children gain food systems ecology lessons and environmental values from GBL. A Qualitative study will validate the positive effects of GBL through personal interviews with garden teachers and other leaders involved with GBL programs. A discussion about the research question, methodological issues, areas of GBL that need improvement, and further recommendations will be discussed by the author in her conclusion.
