This thesis will look to a qualitative research approach, examining student engagement with a participant-observer methodology. I will introduce a new model for creating an atmosphere of student engagement called the Student Sustainability Ambassador Program, which utilizes an educational framework called the Five Minds for the Future developed by Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University. The research from this thesis will attempt to show that this framework combined with a focus on sustainability is one way to successfully create opportunities for student engagement.

The conclusion will discuss reflections on my research and that a truly successful educational model for fostering student engagement should integrate both academic buy-in as well as administrative buy-in.
