Stage Management is an art. Improvisation is an art. As art forms can influence and inspire one another, improvisation has profoundly impacted my approach to stage management. By establishing a common understanding of art, stage management, and improvisation and by connecting the skill set of a great stage manager to improvisation, I will present the case that studying improvisation can significantly strengthens the stage manager's skills as an artist.
