This action research project explored the use of the Drive Thru Menu Math program within a self-contained special education classroom of middle school students identified with emotional behavioral disorder (EBD), attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and low-socioeconomic status. The study evaluated student confidence levels, word problem comprehension, and money recognition with the implementation of the Drive Thru Menu Math program in conjunction with authentic experiences. Students used a combination of realistic menu activities, role playing interactions, authentic world experiences, and self-journal reflection. Boys Town was utilized to oversee classroom behavior. The study occurred over a ten-week period. The results of the study indicated an overall positive increase in student confidence levels and mathematical computation.
