Medi-Cal provides health care coverage for more than half of California's children. A growing body of research on psychosocial care has caused an increase in the integration of psychosocial services in healthcare. One such field which addresses psychosocial needs of children is the field of Child Life. This study aims to present the current state of the Medicaid system in California in regards to the role that psychosocial care plays in the treatment of children and families. This study analyzes two meetings held by the Medi-Cal Children's Health Advisory Panel. The results show Medi-Cal stakeholders discussions on the rights of Medi-Cal enrolees to have more holistic care which addresses the many elements of health. Specifically, an ideological change is occurring in which a whole person care model is considered to be best practice. The whole person care model reflects elements of psychosocial wellbeing such as behavioral health, and treatment of the family and community. However, this study found that barriers exist which prevent children enrolled in Medi-Cal from receiving care which serves the whole child. This study synthesizes its results in order to present how Child Life services could be integrated into Medi-Cal.
