Thesis (M.B.A.)--The College of St. Scholastica, 2017.
In the modern technology-driven economy, all economic sectors are focusing on adoption of the latest technological developments in a bid to remain relevant. The health sector has not been spared from getting swept by this technological wave. Some of the technologies used in the health sector include telehealth tools, infection detecting technologies, and imaging devices. The current research examines the prospects of introducing telehealth in Native American reservations, in an effort to alleviate health care disparities. Telehealth is a health care service that is provided remotely through telecommunication technology. Through telehealth, patients are able to seamlessly interact through telecommunications with their physician. The key conclusion from the study is Native Americans face significant challenges in accessing medical care. These challenges have contributed to rise in the mortality rate among Native Americans, as well as the increase of chronic diseases. Telehealth is an effective tool, which can be used in alleviating health disparities among Native Americans. Use of telehealth decreases on the transportation costs that patients incur and enables healthcare facilities to increase their revenue due to expanded customer base. Thus, telehealth creates a win-win situation for Native American patients and health care facilities attending to them. Further research to determine the best means of implementing telehealth programs among Native Americans is recommended.
