This dissertation focuses on the living art of flamenco through its history, development and pedagogy in the Los Angeles area. It also addresses the absence of academic scholarship on the emigration, and metamorphosis of flamenco in areas outside of Spain. This project will add another dimension to the existing literature on flamenco by exploring its journey from Southern Spain to Los Angeles through music, dance, literature, documents, and the life stories of some of the flamenco artists of Los Angeles.
