Thesis (D.H.A.)--Capella University, 2017.
C-suite succession planning and leadership developments plays a significant role in detecting and preparing talented minorities for upcoming roles, as well as strengthening executive diversity at the highest levels. Nevertheless, in numerous hospitals and health systems, there is a widespread weakness in the career development opportunities that executives consider to be advancement and the minority applicant who actually receives the opportunity. The purpose of this study is to identify ways in which up and coming minority professional may obtain career success by making their way to the C-suite (or executive) roles in the healthcare industry. The research question focuses on ways which executives achieved their success rather than barriers that held them back. As well, the research question focuses on ways which current minority executives help and lead the path for others. This research utilized the qualitative approach with in depth interviews as the basis for data collection. All of the participants, at the time of the study, occupied a role within the senior leadership team of the healthcare industry. The findings of the research showcase mentorship, scholarship and fellowship as the keys to success in the healthcare industry.
