Caring has been a concept that has been hotly debated in nursing for many years. The belief that caring cannot be taught but is innate, is something that the current work strives to dispel. Utilizing techniques of role modeling, respect, and remembering where one comes from are just three of the prevailing concepts that have been synthesized from the body of published work. Published literature from the United States was gathered, evaluated, translated, and finally synthesized to confirm the continued relevance of Watson's theory of human caring as a successful mode for nursing education. The synthesis was found to be able to be employed in all aspects of teaching nursing.

Study replication will tell the nursing community how nursing has developed as a science of caring as well as an art since Beck's original work in 2001. The original studies from Beck's study and new studies were reviewed to present new information and changes in the field of caring. The new studies provided information regarding the path of nursing education and how caring has been taught since Beck's original work.

The "three R's" of nursing education, Role modeling, Respecting, and Remembering, was a simplified way to discuss crucial pieces of nursing education and teaching or demonstrating caring to students. These concepts were not specific to just nursing. These were concepts that apply in many areas of study, such as education and psychology. The studies utilized here repeat the same information and many studies cite each other.

Role modeling, authentic presencing, respect, and personal sharing were all topics that came up over and over. The body of evidence indicates that not only was caring important and necessary to study further, but also that theories such as Watson's theory of human caring remain relevant and current in nursing.
