Environmental encroachment and resource depletion are critical problems that each country faces today. One of the main contributors in exacerbating environmental problems is the business sector. Accordingly, the thesis will discuss the importance of supporting green business initiatives for the benefit of both the environment and the business community, and will then analyze how governments can encourage the business community to shift their businesses to be "green" and to improve their business impacts on the environment. The thesis concludes by arguing that the best way that governments can support green business and reach sustainability is by issuing outcome-based regulations and adopting incentivizing tools, along with the co-operation of the business community, the public, and governments when issuing the both the regulations and adopting the tools.
